Meek Mill Badly Wants A ‘Reggae Song That He Can Rap On’ For His Upcoming Album – DancehallMag

Rebel Nation | September 1, 2021

American rapper Meek Mill is adding the final touches to his fifth studio album and has revealed that he really, really wants to include a Reggae song ‘that he can rap on’ in the collection.

According to the All Eyes On You rapper, his next body of work, which he previously confirmed would feature 18 tracks, could drop any day now. “Album done so soon!” he stated over the weekend, during a Q&A session with fans on Twitter, when an inquiring mind asked when to expect the new LP. He added, “I’m back now!! I’m about to drop!!”

The Philadelphia-raised rap star, however, doesn’t seem quite contented with the current features on the project.

“I want a reggae song badddddddddd as sh#t on my album,” he tweeted to his 10.5 million followers on Twitter yesterday.

Further adding that it needs to be one that he can flex his raps on, Meek said, “one I can rap on.”  So, he likely means he wants a Dancehall track, not Reggae.

The tweet was in response to Jamaican American producer Astyle Alive, who had asked the rapper to ‘tap in on a Reggae vibe type track.’

Alive followed up today, in another tweet, where he offered Meek a Dancehall beat.

I got that Dancehall beat locked and ready to send. Tell #NickPapz I want him in on the greatness too. His beats are raw. #ForTheCulture #IShareTheWealth @MeekMill,” the producer wrote.

It might be no wonder that the rapper is looking to add some Dancehall/Reggae flavor to his new album now.

Last year Meek Mill was spotted making music in the studio with Jamaican Shengyeng princess Shenseea, which we presume will appear on her upcoming debut album.

The Blessed star, who has worked with others in the rap world, like Tyga, Swae Lee, and most recently Kanye West, had shared the moment with Meek with fans on the ‘Gram.

“@meekmill we both got some My work, my ShenYengz and my God have gotten me to a diff level. Let’s keep the movement strong and Moving,” she wrote at the time.

The Going Bad artist also led many to believe that he and the Unruly Boss could have music brewing when he jetted to Jamaica to link with Popcaan last year March.  Popcaan has an upcoming album, which he said would be premiering in Ghana.

Meek Mill’s fourth studio LP Championships, which was released in 2018, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 229,000 first-week units. The collection included features by Cardi B, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Future, Roddy Ricch, Young Thug, Drake, 21 Savage, and other acts.

If Mill gets his Reggae feature and drops his album in the coming days, he would have to deal with commercial competition from Kanye West’s recently released genre fused, Donda, that actually features Shenseea on two tracks, Pure Souls with Roddy Rich and Ok Ok part 2 with Rooga. Buju Banton also appears on the collection on the track, Believe What I Say.

In addition, Meek Mill will also have to challenge, Drake’s long-anticipated Certified Lover Boy album that is expected to debut on Friday, September 3.

Meek recently dropped two new singles, Sharing Locations featuring Lil Baby and Lil Durk that dropped last Friday, and Blue Notes2 with Lil Uzi Vert that premiered earlier today.
