Prime Minster, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, will address the nation this evening on his Government’s plans in view of the current COVID-19 situation in Grenada.
A release within Government circles indicates there was an emergency Cabinet meeting yesterday, where recommendations to tackle the current COVID issue, submitted by the COVID-19 Sub-Committee, were discussed.
The committee’s recommendations are expected to help inform the Government’s approach in navigating through the current crisis.
In view of collaborative efforts in the fight against the pandemic, the Government embarked on a series of consultations with major stakeholders…the first was held with the business community and today…high-ranking government officials met with representatives from trade unions.
Regular discourse is said to be ongoing with the religious community.
In a release prior to the Prime Minister’s address this evening, assurance is being given to the Nation that the country will not be placed on lockdown, as a result of current COVID circumstances.
The disclosure of the Prime Minister’s national address scheduled for broadcast this evening is said to have sparked concern about a possible lockdown, which in turn provoked panic-buying.
Dr. Mitchell, however, gives the assurance that a lockdown will not be included among additional containment measures that he will announced in his address this evening.
He’s therefore urging citizens, for yet another time, to avoid panic buying, as crowded settings foster the further spread of the virus.
The Prime Minister’s address will be broadcast live at 8 this evening on all broadcast entities and social media platforms.
