Looking for more crossover success and taking his ‘sloppy’ narrative into the next saga, Dancehall star Skillibeng released his latest fix, Sloppy Queen yesterday (August 31).
The new release comes on a slowly paced Hip Hop beat with the St. Thomas native flexing his best singing and subdued rap bars on the riddim. Though expressing more versatility in his art, the new sound is an effortless delivery compared to his usual tongue-twisting trap-hall limericks or deejaying flows.
Sloppy Queen, like his previous overly erotic pieces, is another illustration of an intimate encounter with a spry femme-fetale, carrying way more details than anyone needs to know. Skilli however, bares a vulnerable side infusing RnB style tones when he croons “souls combine when we naked,” and “beautiful, you make me feel so la la dee dah, my Sloppy Queen” in other verses.
The track enrolls with others of the same context from the prolific collection by the Mr. Universe artist. Among them are those from his May-released LP, The Prodigy Mixtape: Ladies Only Edition, which was followed up with the track Sloppy and the ensuing Sloppy Challenge.
Skillibeng’s Silhouette Challenge track, which sampled Paul Anka’s 1959 hit song, Put Your Head On My Shoulder was an instant hit with the ladies and later took on sub-viral momentum from the existing TikTok challenge. Then there are others like 2 Gyal, Bad Freak, She A Freak, and She Love Badman that follows in the same vein from the Crocodile Teeth artist.
The reaction from fans on the new release for the most part has been quite positive with many anticipating a “Sloppy Queen Challenge.”
“Waiting on the “Sloppy queen” challenge now..
Another said, “Fully Eastsyde Big Up The Sloppy Queen Dem
“Sloppy Queen sounds like a rap love song,” said one person.
